WASHINGTON: The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced a new online system for China nationals to use who hold a 10-year B1/B2, B1, or B2 (visitor) visa to facilitate international travel to the United States. This system will be used to update basic biographic information on a periodic basis. An information update (referred to as an “enrollment”) will last for two years or when the traveler’s visa or passport expires (whichever comes first).

The Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS) enrollment becomes mandatory on November 29, 2016. Early enrollment will likely become operational later this month. All China nationals who hold a 10-year B1/B2, B1, or B-2 (visitor) visa must enroll in EVUS, regardless of their current residence or age.

The EVUS website will be available in both English and Mandarin. Users must answer all questions in English, however. A friend or relative, travel industry professional, or another third party may submit the information on a traveler’s behalf and will be able to check the traveler’s EVUS status. The fee to enroll in EVUS is $8 (53 RMB). CBP may apply this visa requirement to additional countries in the future. Travelers should check www.cbp.gov/EVUS or call the EVUS Call Center at 1.202.325.0180 for more information.
