WASHINGTON: US Customs and Border Protection announced the expansion of Mobile Passport Control (MPC) to Miami International Airport. MPC is the first authorized app to expedite a traveler’s entry process into the United States.
Eligible travelers submit their passport information and customs declaration form via the smartphone and tablet app prior to CBP inspection. Android and iPhone users can download Mobile Passport for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
“CBP is committed to improving the traveler experience by offering new and innovative ways to expedite entry into the United States while ensuring the highest level of security,” said Assistant Commissioner for Office of Field Operations Todd C. Owen. “The app has proven to be a valuable tool for those arriving in Atlanta as we continue to reduce wait times using programs like MPC and Automated Passport Control for the continually growing volume of travelers to the United States.”
Eligible travelers arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport have been using the app to expedite their entry since the pilot began in August 2014. MPC is expected to expand to more airports later this spring and CBP has committed to expand the program to the 20 airports with the highest volumes of international travelers by the end of 2016.
MPC currently offers U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors a more efficient and secure in-person inspection between the CBP officer and the traveler upon arrival in the United States. Much like Automated Passport Control, the app does not require pre-approval, is free to use and does not collect any new information on travelers. As a result, travelers will experience shorter wait times, less congestion and faster processing.
