EL PASO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at El Paso area ports of entry apprehended five NCIC wanted subjects Wednesday. Two of the people were sought on warrants related to alleged sex crimes committed against children.
“Homeland security is our primary mission.” said Francis Brown, CBP El Paso Assistant Director of Field Operations. “The CBP process of screening all arriving people will often uncover those wanted by law enforcement. When we identify and apprehend those people we are helping to keep our communities and our nation safe and secure.”
One arrest occurred at the Paso Del Norte crossing in El Paso. At approximately 10:30 a.m. a 56-year-old Colombian male entered the port as a pedestrian and presented his legal permanent resident card to the CBP officer working the primary inspection station. The CBP officer queried the subject and received notice that he was wanted in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The man was escorted to a secondary exam area for a full fingerprint scan which confirmed his identity and the active warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child. The El Paso police department was contacted and took custody of Harold Millan Zapata. He was booked into the El Paso County jail to await extradition.
The other arrest occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. at the Columbus port of entry in New Mexico when a 24-year-old U.S. citizen entered the port as a pedestrian. He was seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds suffered in Mexico earlier in the week. A CBP officer at the primary inspection station queried the subject and received notice that he was wanted in Greely, Colorado for sexual offense against a child/fondling. CBP officers then confirmed the warrant. EMS was contacted to attend to the wounds as was the Luna County sheriff’s office to take custody of the man. The subject, Javier Barraza, was transported to the Mimbres Memorial hospital by EMS while being escorted by the Luna County Sheriff’s office.
