DOUGLAS: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two Mexican nationals for allegedly attempting to smuggle a combined $104,000 worth of marijuana in separate incidents over the Port of Douglas on Wednesday, June 24.
26-year-old Miguel Angel Ramirez-Sainz was taken into custody after the officers found nearly 152 pounds of marijuana concealed throughout the Agua Prieta, Sonora man’s Mazda sedan. The narcotics had an estimated value of close to $76,000.
Later that day, 23-year-old Manuel Alejandro Hernandez was apprehended after the officers found almost 56 pounds of marijuana inside a hidden compartment in the bed of the Agua Prieta resident’s Ford truck.
The drugs and vehicles involved were processed for seizure. The suspects were referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
