SAN LUIS: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis arrested three Mexican smugglers with $708,000 worth of drugs in separate incidents over the last two days.
May 5, 42-year-old Oscar Roberto Ron-Ron was apprehended after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted the officers of 18 packages of methamphetamine hidden within the quarter panels of the Yuma man’s Jeep SUV. The narcotics weighed more than 19 pounds and were worth about $58,000.
Later that day, 21-year-old Marisol Gonzalez-Garcia was arrested after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted the officers of 81 packages of methamphetamine concealed in the heater core of the San Luis, Rio Colorado woman’s Ford SUV. The drugs, which weighed more than 43 pounds, had an estimated value of almost $130,000.
The next day, May 6, Abigail Zamudio-Sanchez was taken into custody after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted the officers of 20 packages of cocaine in the floor of the San Luis, Rio Colorado resident’s Ford SUV. The narcotics, which were valued close to $520,000, weighed nearly 50 pounds.
The contraband and the vehicles were processed for seizure. The suspects were referred to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
