HIDALGO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a 70-year-old man from Mission, Texas who had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Mission Police Department for child sexual assault.
“This person who had pending charges against him was detected at one of our international bridges as he attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico,” said Acting Port Director Javier Cantu, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “If an individual has an outstanding arrest warrant, CBP Field Operations will detect it upon arrival at any port of entry, whether it is by land, sea or air.”
CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered Ignacio Gomez Vazquez, a United States citizen, as he attempted to enter the U.S. through the pedestrian walkway. After a primary check indicated that he was a possible match for an arrest warrant, he was escorted to secondary for further inspection. CBP officers conducted biometric verification on Gomez Vasquez which confirmed his identity and that of an arrest warrant from the Mission Police Department, issued in Aug. 2015.
The arrest warrant was for allegations of inappropriately touching a child under the age of six in May 2014, a female relative that was four at time and sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
CBP OFO arrested Gomez Vasquez and subsequently released him to the custody of the Mission Police Department.
