PRESIDIO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Presidio port of entry seized 74 pounds of marijuana. The drugs were hidden in the rear fender wells of a pick-up truck.Presidio drug load
“The multi-layered inspection process at the port continues to prove to be successful,” said John Deputy, CBP Presidio Port Director. “CBP officers working at the Presidio port of entry utilized interview skills, a narcotic detector dog and state of the art x-ray system to intercept the drugs.”
The drug seizure was made just before 3 p.m. Friday when a 2002 Ford F-150 driven by a female Mexican citizen made entry. CBP officers initiated an examination of the vehicle utilizing a narcotics dog who alerted to the presence of narcotics. A Z-portal scan of the vehicle revealed anomalies on the rear panels of the truck. CBP officers removed 53 bundles from the compartment which contained a green leafy substance field testing positive for marijuana.
The 50-year-old driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations ICE agents to face federal prosecution for the failed smuggling attempt.Marijuana filled bundles seized at the Presidio port
While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories.
