NEW YORK: A woman arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was concealing nearly three pounds of cocaine inside her bra, federal authorities said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the unidentified woman is a citizen of Jamaica who has been charged with importation of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. She was arrested Aug. 2.

The agency issued a news release saying field operation officers at the airport found a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine inside the woman’s bra “after noticing abnormalities during an inspection.” A total of 2.7 pounds of cocaine was seized and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations, officials said.

The arrest took place less than two weeks after Customs and Border Protection announced the arrest of a man accused of trying to smuggle cocaine into Port Everglades by taping the drug to his ankles.

In that case, the agency said 2.4 pounds of the drug were seized after the man arrived at the port on a cruise ferry from the Bahamas.
