NEW YORK: A federal judge sentenced a commercial truck driver this week to 97 months in prison for smuggling marijuana into Arizona.
Federal authorities arrested Jose Francisco Garcia-Coronado in June 2013 near Amado, Arizona after a U.S. Border Patrol drug detection dog alerted authorities to a false wall inside Garcia-Coronado’s tractor trailer containing nearly one ton of marijuana worth an estimated $1 million.
U.S. attorneys said Garcia-Coronado used his expertise as a long-haul commercial truck driver to smuggle the marijuana. Garcia-Coronado was previously found guilty for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
U.S. District Judge David Bury sentenced Garcia-Coronado on Tuesday.
