NEW YORK: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers made four drug seizures Thursday.
CBP officials said they intercepted 218 pounds of marijuana in three separate incidents. Officers also confiscated 14 pounds of cocaine in an additional seizure.
The largest marijuana seizure was made at the Bridge of the Americas around 1:30 p.m. when a 2009 Nissan Versa entered the port from Mexico.
A CBP officer noticed that the driver, Fabiola Aguirre Ruiz, 25, of Ciudad Juarez, was nervous, officials said.
The vehicle was sent to a secondary inspection, where a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the front of the car.
A total of 90 marijuana-filled bundles were removed from the floor of the vehicle, according to officials.
The drugs weighed a total of 96.8 pounds.
Ruiz was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigation agents to face charges for the smuggling attempt.
