NEW YORK: Public awareness campaigns are airing across Central America. Customs and Border Protection launched a campaign called Know the Facts.
The announcements are airing on radio and television stations, as well as on social media. The aim of the message is to alert people about the dangers of using a smuggler to sneak into the U.S.
CBP tailored their message to people in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The agency is tracking the response through U.S. embassy offices.
“Several of our public affairs people are traveling to other places, Boston and New York and Washington, Los Angeles,” said CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske. “We also have to give the message to the people here in the United States.”
The public awareness campaign cost $1.2 million.
