CBP tailored their message to people in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The agency is tracking the response through U.S. embassy offices.

“Several of our public affairs people are traveling to other places, Boston and New York and Washington, Los Angeles,” said CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske. “We also have to give the message to the people here in the United States.”

The public awareness campaign cost $1.2 million.
