TUCSON: Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Phoenix man for an alleged attempt to smuggle nearly four pounds of heroin and cocaine through the Port of Nogales here the other day.
When CBP officers searched a border crosser, they found a combination of heroin and cocaine strapped to his back
Officers at the Morley Pedestrian crossing referred Benito Jesus Maytorena, 22, for further inspection when he attempted to enter the U.S. During the inspection, a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs under Maytorena’s shirt. Officers removed more than 1.5 pounds of heroin, valued at more than $22,000, and more than two pounds of cocaine exceeding $24,000 in value.
Officers seized the drugs and turned Maytorena over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
