TEXAS: The United States Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas successfully repatriated a guide to Mexico, where he will face charges for human smuggling.
A traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle where it was discovered that the smuggler was traveling with a group of undocumented aliens. The alien smuggler was identified as Jesus Reyes Guerra. The US Border Patrol’s International Liaison Unit (ILU), in conjunction with the Government of Mexico, concluded there was sufficient evidence to convict Reyes Guerra for said charges.
A couple days later, the ILU generated a Criminal Complaint with Mexico’s “Procuraduria General de la Republica” (PGR). The PGR drafted an order of appearance and ordered a Mexican subpoena out of the state of Chihuahua for alien smuggling for Reyes Guerra. Reyes Guerra was charged in the United States with 8 USC 1325 “Improper Entry by an Alien” and booked into jail.
After a brief detainment in the U.S., Reyes Guerra was turned over to the PGR Federal Police Tuesday morning to face prosecution in Mexico through the Stanton Port of Entry. He will remain incarcerated in a Mexican prison until all proceedings are completed.
“These types of incidents demonstrate the value of maintaining a strong sense of cooperation between international agencies to help the US Border Patrol combat the furtherance of wanted criminals into our community”, El Paso Sector Chief Jeffrey Self stated.
