TUCSON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two alleged smugglers with a combined $191,000 worth of methamphetamine.
At the Port of Nogales, 48-year-old Felizardo Olivares-Larios was taken into custody after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted the officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing to the 40 pounds of meth hidden within a non-factory compartment in the Cajeme, Sonora man’s Nissan SUV. The drugs were valued at $121,000.
At the Port of San Luis, 22-year-old Suzette Escobedo was apprehended after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted the officers to 23 pounds of methamphetamine in the fuel tank of the San Luis, Ariz. woman’s Nissan sedan. The narcotics had an estimated worth of $70,000.
The drugs and vehicles involved were processed for seizure. The suspects were referred to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
