NEW YORK: Two Canadian women were allegedly trying to smuggle 10 kilograms of marijuana into the United States, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection says.
Border guards searched their vehicle during a secondary inspection at the Ambassador Bridge. A picture released by U.S customs shows what appear to be bags filled with marijuana buds stashed in a duffel bag.
“CBP officers rely on their training and instincts to detect suspicious activity,” Rod Blanchard, the director of the Detroit Port, said in a statement. “I commend the CBP officers involved in stopping this shipment of drugs from reaching our streets.”
Both women were turned over to agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs for further investigation.
