MIAMI: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated nearly 100 pounds of marijuana July 28 at Miami International Airport, that was concealed within fiberglass decorations, CBP officials said.
Officers selected the package for examination and found six large fiberglass decorative boxes inside wooden crates.
Officers said they found a false shelf enclosure in the boxes where the drugs were stored. The drugs were found in six brick-shaped packages wrapped in plastic.
According to authorities, the drugs had been shipped from Mexico to an address in the Midwest.
The marijuana was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations.
“We are very proud of our CBP officers for going the extra mile every day,” Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher Maston said. “This seizure is a great example of their commitment to keeping dangerous, illegal drugs out of the United States.”
CBP officials said about 10,000 pounds of drugs are typically seized across the nation each day.
