BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge recently seized 102 pounds of alleged marijuana in two separate enforcement actions.
“These two seizures, are evidence of the specialized training and skills of our CBP officers and exemplify the officers’ hard work and dedication to CBP’s border security mission by helping to keeping narcotics out of our nation,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry.

This was one of two seizures in a 48-hour period totaling 102 poundsThe seizures took place on Apr. 18 and Apr. 19, when CBP officers conducting primary enforcement operations at the Gateway International Bridge referred the vehicles to secondary for intensive inspections. The first load of alleged marijuana was discovered when CBP officers at secondary conducted a thorough examination of a green 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and discovered 53 packages of alleged marijuana concealed within the vehicle. The second load of alleged marijuana consisted of 38 packages concealed within a maroon 1996 Honda Accord. The narcotics were discovered during an intensive secondary inspections by CBP officers. The combined weight of the marijuana from both seizures was 102 pounds with an estimated street value of approximately $20,396.00.
CBP officers seized the narcotics, the vehicles, arrested the drivers and turned the cases over to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
