TUCSON: Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two Arizona women allegedly involved in an attempt to smuggle more than 51 pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine through Port of Nogales.
After officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred Mercedes Jeanne Dukes, 42, of Phoenix, and her 35-year-old passenger, Jenelle Leanne Meyers, of Surprise, for further inspection of a Honda sedan, a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs within the vehicle’s front and rear seats. Officers found nearly five pounds of cocaine, worth almost $51,000, and close to 47 pounds of meth valued at approximately $140,000.
Officers seized the drugs and turned both suspects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
