TUCSON: Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized two vehicles and close to 5,000 pounds of marijuana, worth nearly $2.5 million near Douglas, Arizona.
When agents patrolling near the international boundary fence attempted to approach two suspicious vehicles, both vehicles attempted to abscond at a high rate of speed. Agents initiated a pursuit and eventually stopped the vehicles by deploying a Controlled Tire Deflation Device, or “spike strip.” Both drivers yielded just north of the international boundary fence and abandoned the vehicles.Seized marijuana
Agents seized and transported the vehicles to the Douglas Border Patrol Station. In addition to the marijuana, agents found 31 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in the vehicles.
Although marijuana seizures in the Tucson Sector have declined in the past year, transnational narcotic smugglers continue attempts to smuggle narcotics into the United States. These sophisticated smuggling efforts are countered through the diligence and dedication of the Border Patrol and its partners working toward a common goal of securing America’s homeland. This year, Tucson Sector has seized more than 685,000 pounds of narcotics.
