US Customs seizes $200K in drugs at Rio Grande Valley Bridges

HIDALGO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges arrested two men after detecting $198,000 worth of alleged cocaine and methamphetamine hidden within the vehicles they were driving.
“As smugglers continue with their efforts to introduce illegal narcotics into the United States, our frontline officers’ resiliency and determination to combat those illicit activities and keep those dangerous drugs from entering our country continue as well,” said Port Director Efrain Solis Jr., Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
On Jan. 8, CBP officers at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge referred a white 2008 Ford Explorer driven by a 38-year-old man from Lake Worth, Florida for a secondary inspection. With the assistance of a canine team and a non-intrusive imaging system, officers discovered nine packages of alleged cocaine concealed within the Ford SUV. CBP OFO seized the $160,000 worth of narcotics and seized the vehicle as well.
On Jan. 10, CBP officers working at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge encountered a 19-year-old Mexican citizen man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico attempting to enter the U.S. A CBP officer referred him and the white 2005 Chrysler Sebring for further inspection and during the course of the secondary examination, officer discovered one package of alleged methamphetamine and one package of suspected cocaine hidden within the Sebring. CBP OFO seized the 1.56 pounds of methamphetamine and the nearly one pound of cocaine valued at approximately $31,000 and $7,000, respectively, and seized the vehicle as well.
CBP OFO arrested both men who were ultimately released to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
