FLORIDA: US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Miami International Airport have seized $2,000 in counterfeit currency arriving in a package from Trinidad and Tobago.
The money was hidden in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle colouring pages in the shipment.
According to a statement from the CBP, officers selected the package for examination and discovered that a set of the sheets were unusually heavy.
Upon further examination, they found the currency between two coloring sheets that were glued together.
The CBP officers further observed that the bills were of poor quality and the Secret Service was notified. It was subsequently determined that the currency was counterfeit.
“Once again our officers’ diligence in inspection operations has paid off,” said Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher Maston. “They remain committed to protecting the American people and it shows in their hard work every day.”
CBP routinely conducts inspection operations on arriving and departing international passengers and cargo, and searches for terrorist weapons, illicit narcotics, unreported currency, counterfeit merchandise, and prohibited agriculture and other products.
