BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine at the Veteran’s International Bridge. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $52,029, hidden under the clothing of a man attempting entry into the United States.
“Drug smugglers will try different ways to introduce narcotics into our country,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. “I congratulate our officers for their diligence and dedication which led to the detection and seizure of these hard narcotics.”
The seizure took place on Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Veteran’s International Bridge when a 22-year-old male Mexican citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, applied for entry into the United States through the vehicle lane and was referred to CBP secondary for further examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered two packages hidden under the man’s clothing. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 2.60 pounds of alleged methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $52,029.
CBP officers seized the narcotics, arrested the traveler, and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
