ALEXANDRIA BAY: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers encountered Samuel Jones, a U.S. citizen, attempting to cross the border with 586.29 grams of marijuana.  Jones arrived at the border with a female companion from Kingston, Ontario.

Jones stated to CBP officers that he was returning from a three day visit to Canada, and his vehicle was referred for a secondary inspection.  The secondary search of the vehicle subsequently revealed the presence of a large clear plastic bag under the spare tire in the vehicle trunk. The substance tested positive for marijuana and Jones stated that the marijuana belonged to him.

CBP officers arrested Jones and subsequently turned him over to the custody of New York State Police for prosecution.

“Our CBP officers are trained to detect the kind of odd behaviors that may be indicative of bigger problems,” said Port Director Tim Walker.  “This is another example of the vigilance and professionalism that defends our border against criminals and terrorists,” Walker said.
