PHILADELPHIA: A shipment of Costa Rican pumpkins and squash seized by federal agents last week at the Port of Philadelphia contained more than food.
Stashed in long, thin packages laminated to the inside of the fruit case boxes was more than 360 pounds of cocaine with a street value of more than $6 million.
The container with the produce arrived aboard the M/V Santa Maria and was destined for a distributor in the Bronx. Officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection discovered the hidden white powder on Thursday during an inspection. An on-site test confirmed it was cocaine.
An investigation is continuing. There have been no arrests.
According the CBP, the haul is the eighth-largest cocaine seizure at the Port of Philadelphia.
