MIAMI: In June, eagle-eyed Miami customs officials seized 720 pieces of counterfeit Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced.
The pieces arrived from Hong Kong and carried a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $6 million, it said.
When CBP officers selected the shipment for inspection, they immediately noticed that the merchandise bore a fake Van Cleef copyright, a statement said.
In 2014, the watch and jewelry category topped the CBP’s list of most-seized counterfeit items by value, overtaking the usual No. 1, handbags and wallets. China was the leading source of counterfeits, followed by Hong Kon
