US customs seizes heroin worth of $742K at Brownsville port in Texas

BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged heroin, valued at approximately $742,000, hidden within a blue Chevrolet Silverado.

“This outstanding interception of hard narcotics was accomplished due to excellent perseverance and great inspectional techniques by our frontline officers,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. “I thank our officers for their diligence and exceptional commitment to our mission.”

On June 24, CBP officers working at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge came in contact with a 33-year-old male Mexican citizen driving a blue 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The officer’s initial inspection of the pickup and driver, who resides in Brownsville, Texas resulted in the vehicle being referred to CBP secondary for further examination. With the assistance of a canine unit, CBP officers discovered and removed 13 packages of alleged heroin hidden within the Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which weighed approximately 32.72 pounds. The alleged heroin has an estimated street value of $742,000.

CBP officers arrested the driver, seized the narcotics and the vehicle and subsequently turned the driver over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
