BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to the Brownsville Port of Entry this week seized a significant amount of marijuana within a commercial shipment of TV stands at Veterans International Bridge Cargo Import Lot.
“This is a significant interception of narcotics in the cargo environment and reflects the dedication of our frontline officers at Brownsville Port of Entry to uphold our border security mission while facilitating lawful commerce,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry.
The seizure took place on Monday, Feb. 29 at Veterans International Bridge cargo import lot when CBP officers referred a 34-year old male Mexican citizen driving a 1993 Freightliner tractor hauling a commercial shipment of television stands for a secondary examination. With the help of non-intrusive imaging technology, CBP officers discovered 168 packages of alleged marijuana weighing 2,419 pounds hidden within the shipment. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $483,742.
CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the truck, arrested the driver and turned the case over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
