TUCSON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis arrested three men recently for separate smuggling attempts involving a combined 84 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 50 pounds of marijuana.Officers discovered packages of marijuana behind the rear seat of a smuggling vehicle as well as within the spare tire
CBP officers working at the port May 13 referred a 63-year-old Mexican national for a further inspection of his Jeep SUV. After a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers found almost 51 pounds of marijuana, valued in excess of 25,000, in the vehicle’s spare tire and seat.
On May 15, a CBP canine team alerted to a Chevrolet truck driven by a 24-year-old man from San Jacinto, California. Officers then removed nearly 50 pounds of meth, worth almost $150,000, from the spare tire. Later, the same canine team alerted to the Honda sedan of a 24-year-old Phoenix man with more than 34 pounds of meth, valued in excess of $102,000, within the car’s rear rocker panels.
Officers seized all drugs and vehicles, while the subjects were arrested and then referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
