LAREDO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a significant amount of crystal methamphetamine in two separate enforcement actions with a combined value of $914,468.
“These were excellent interceptions made by our CBP officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend the officers for their keen observation skills and interviewing techniques which led to the discovery of this hard narcotic.”
The latest seizure occurred on Thursday, Jan. 21 at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge when a CBP officer conducted an inspection on a commercial bus. A 27-year-old male Mexican citizen resident of Houston, Texas was referred for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted an inspection of his personal belongings which led to the discovery of 17 pounds of crystal methamphetamine valued at $358,027.
The other seizure occurred at the same bridge on Wednesday, Jan. 20, when a CBP officer conducted an inspection on a commercial bus. A 21-year-old male United States citizen from Houston, Texas applied for entry and was referred for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted an inspection of his personal belongings which led to the discovery of 27 pounds of crystal methamphetamine within bags of candy valued at $556,441.
CBP officers seized the narcotics in both cases. Both men and cases were then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
