HIDALGO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Monday seized more than $230,000 in U.S. currency headed into Mexico, according to a news release.
Officers working outbound operations on the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge selected a 2006 Honda Pilot driven by a 26-year-old woman for inspection, according to the release.
During the inspection officers discovered bundles of currency inside several duffle bags located in the rear of the SUV, according to the release.
Authorities said officers removed 24 bundles of cash totalling $230,753.
The woman, who was not identified but is a confirmed U.S. citizen from Pharr, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents, according to the release.
