CALIFORNIA: The Eureka Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center on Broadway just south of West Wabash Avenue. Eureka City Manager Greg Sparks has sent letters to both the chamber and the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau that stated the city will be terminating financial agreements with both at the end of the fiscal year and would be under no further obligation to fund them after that date.
Shaun Walker the Times Standard. Eureka City Manager Greg Sparks recently terminated the city’s contracts for visitor’s services with both the Eureka Chamber of Commerce and the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau in a bid to renegotiate the deals.
Sparks sent letters to the directors of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce and the Humboldt County Convention and Visitors Bureau in mid June, notifying them that the city would end agreements with the two entities as of June 30, 2016 the end of the fiscal year and would be under no further obligation to fund them after that date. The only difference between the two letters was the name of the organization and the date of the contracts.
The Eureka City Council cut funding to both the chamber and the bureau for the 2015-16 fiscal years by 20 percent during June budget discussions, Sparks terminated the contracts without direct council approval.
