TEXAS: Federal agents have charged two women with smuggling drugs through McAllen-Miller International Airport.
Police arrested Porsha Atasha Hawkins on Tuesday and Brianna Lashay Dowl on Friday, according to the federal criminal complaint against them.
Hawkins arrived at McAllen-Miller about 15 minutes before her flight departed on Tuesday, according to the criminal complaint. A Transportation Security Administration worker thought Hawkins looked nervous and contacted police.
Hawkins allowed police to search her suitcases.
During the search, police discovered 4.4 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a box of detergent, according to the criminal complaint. Hawkins said someone paid her $1,000 to transport suitcases through the airport.
Three days later, Dowl arrived at McAllen-Miller.
A Border Patrol K-9 alerted to Dowl’s luggage, prompting federal agents to question her.
Dowl told agents she delivered the suitcases to Hawkins and believed the bags contained marijuana.
Federal agents charged both women with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
Court records don’t list attorneys for the women, who remain in federal custody.
