US to give KP $1m for energy development

PESHAWAR: US Consul General in Peshawar, Gabriel Escobar, and Pakhtunkhwa Hydel Development Organisation (PHDO) General Manager Syed Zainullah Shah have signed a $1,026,000 grant agreement for energy development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

US Consul General Escobar, speaking at the ceremony, hoped that the plant would eventually expand to produce double the initial capacity of 435 megawatts. He said that the agreement was an example of longstanding partnership with Pakistan and of the US’ commitment to helping Pakistan resolve its energy issues.

Consul General Escobar signed the grant, ,which is the first-ever US-Pakistan energy related partnership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, on behalf of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) here at US Consulate. After this agreement, the PHDO will be able to conduct a feasibility study on the technical, economic, and financial viability of a 400-435 megawatt gas turbine combined cycle plant in the province.
