CALIFORNIA: Nelson Funeral Home (NFH) celebrates 50 years of service to the community. The staff of Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service is celebrating the 50 years of service provided by the home to the community.Since they first opened their doors at 202 W. Mitchell St. in July 1965, H. Charles and Patrica (Wattson) Nelson and staff have brought passion and compassion to many Northern Michigan residents through their kind acts of benevolence and understanding.
Celebrating their golden anniversary, they continue that same presence in the community, priding themselves on 24/7 service at Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 135 N. Center Ave.“It’s a tremendous honor to be a funeral director,” Charles Nelson said. “People allow me to be responsible for their loved ones. When my phone rings, somebody lost someone they love.”
His compassion is first hand. Nelson lost a parent as a young teenager. He brings empathy and understanding to each individual family, striving to meet the individual needs of everyone.Nelson’s mother worked in a funeral home in Detroit. He grew up there, helping out, washing cars, polishing and cleaning the home. After his mother passed, he went back to work there and they encouraged him to go to mortuary school.$21,000. That was 50 years ago and they’ve never closed.
