SPRINGFIELD: Narcotics Detectives arrested a woman from New York, after an extensive investigation into a huge drug delivery heading into Springfield.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, detectives received information that a drug delivery was going to arrive in Springfield. They knew that the suspected drug dealer was a woman and driving a van from New York.
Sgt. Delaney said the van was seen on the highway, and then exit onto Fuller Street in Springfield, which is where detectives pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver; 19-year-old Clara Perez of Bronx, New York.
Detectives searched the van and found 6,800 packaged “Gucci” logo bags of Heroin, Sgt. Delaney said. Perez was arrested for Trafficking in Heroin 100-200 grams; if convicted, she faces a mandatory sentence of 12 years in State Prison.
Sgt. Delaney said Perez will be held the weekend and arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday morning.
The Lead Detectives in the investigation were Eddie Kalish and Luke Cournoyer, under the direction of Lt. Steven Kent. The DEA in New York City and in Springfield also assisted with the investigation.
