US petcoke exports up 3.2m mt in Sept

NEW YORK: US petcoke exports totaled 3.2 million mt in September, an 11.3% increase over August’s exports and up 20.9% compared with the year-ago period, US Census Bureau figures showed.

Fuel-grade, or non-calcined, petcoke exports totaled 2.9 million mt in September, up 10.3% from the prior month and up 22.6% compared with the year-ago month, the data show.

In the first nine months of 2015, fuel-grade petcoke exports totaled 25.8 million mt, down 4.3% compared with the year-ago period.

Calcined petcoke exports totaled 255,655 mt in September, up 24.2% from the prior month and up 5% year on year.

In the first nine months of 2015, calcined petcoke exports totaled 2.1 million mt, down 6% compared with the same period last year.

In September, the largest importer of US fuel-grade petcoke was India at 409,355 mt, followed by Japan at 353,157 mt, and China at 243,992 mt, according to Census Bureau data. Exports to Turkey totaled 207,305 mt.

In the first nine months of the year, the biggest fuel-grade petcoke importer was India at 3.3 million mt, followed by Japan at 2.8 million mt and China at 2.6 million mt.
