MORRIS: The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department seized Tuesday more than 105 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80, according to Sheriff Kevin Callahan.
Benjamin Lopes, 18, of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Ryan Lucas, 18, also of Falmouth, were arrested about 12:15 p.m., according to a department news release.
Several deputies spend a portion of their patrol time on the two interstates that run through Grundy County in an effort to get drugs off the streets, Callahan said.
The arrest was made after sheriff’s deputy Zach Entwistle conducted a traffic stop after observing a violation.
After a brief investigation during the stop Entwistle found more than 105 pounds of marijuana and more than $700 in cash, according to the news release.
An Illinois State Police K-9 unit assisted in the investigation.
Lopes and Lucas are being held on felony charges of marijuana trafficking, according to the news release.
