PHELPS COUNTY: Two Texas residents were arrested for alleged drug trafficking after a traffic stop on Interstate 44 in Phelps County.
At approximately 9:13 a.m. on Thursday morning, a deputy stopped a U-Haul truck for a traffic violation.
The officer then obtained consent to search the truck, where approximately 537 pounds of marijuana worth more than $500,000 was found concealed within the truck’s contents, according to a news release.
Baldo York, 34, of Grand Prairie, Texas and Erie Perez Puga, 29, of Dallas, Texas were both arrested and transported to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department.
York and Puga were both charged with one charge of first-degree drug trafficking.
Officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the case.
Both suspects are being held on $500,000 bond.
