DENHAM SPRINGS: Approximately 70 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $84,000 were seized during a search warrant of a home on Vincent Road in Denham Springs here the other day.

Sheriff’s officials say 42-year-old Aniceforo Cruz-Garcia of Baton Rouge was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

Sheriff Jason Ard says, “This is a large quantity of marijuana, marijuana that would have been on our streets had we not gotten involved. I’m proud that my team was able to intercept the drugs before our school-aged children hit the streets for summer vacation.”

“We continue to work together with the community in order to keep our streets drug free. In fact, we just completed our Drug Abuse Resistance Education or D.A.R.E. graduations where more than 1,000 students in Livingston Parish learned about saying no to drugs and peer pressure.”

Cruz-Garcia is currently in the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Booking records show he is a resident of Mexico and is currently on a “hold” by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It does say a bond has been set at $250,000.
