LONDON: U.S. stocks ended Wednesday’s choppy session lower, driven by losses in the energy sector. Shares of energy companies dropped sharply after oil futures plunged to a 6 1/2 year low. A brief boost after the release of the FOMC minutes did not last long as the main indexes closed with losses. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.83% ended 17.31 points, or 0.8%, lower at 2,079.61, having briefly breached a 200-day moving average. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.93% fell 162.61 points, or 0.9%, to 17,348.73. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.80% ended the day down 40.30 points, or 0.8%, at 5,019.05.
