LONDON: U.S. stocks closed higher on Tuesday, as investors shrugged off worries about unsuccessful Greek debt talks and awaited the outcome of a two-day Federal Reserve policy meeting which concludes on Wednesday.
The stock market appeared to find support in stronger-than-expected data for building permits.
The S&P 500 SPX, +0.57% added 11.86 points, or 0.6%, to 2,096.29, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.64% gained 113.31 points, or 0.6%, to 17,8904.48.
