LONDON: U.S. stocks fell Thursday, with the Dow and S&P ending at their lowest levels in nearly a month.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 170.69 points, or 0.9%, to 17905.58, hitting its lowest level since May 6. The blue-chip index spent most of the session in negative territory, after flirting with break-even levels briefly in midmorning trade.
The S&P 500 lost 18.23 points, or 0.9%, to 2095.84, ending at its lowest level since May 7.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 40.11 points, or 0.8%, to 5059.12.
Losses were broad-based. All of the S&P 500’s sectors were in negative territory, led by declines in materials and energy stocks.
With Thursday’s move lower, stocks are poised for weekly losses. The Dow is on track for a 0.6% weekly loss, while the S&P is on track to slip 0.5%. The Dow has fallen 2.2% from its May 19 record close, and the S&P is 1.6% below its May 21 closing high.
