ALASKA: Officially Titusville’s unemployment rate fell from 12.1 percent to 6.1 percent, and its residential real estate market is in the midst of a major upswing, with home prices rising at a rapid clip. The infamous report on Titusville by CBS’ 60 Minutes three years ago still stings many in north Brevard County.
Correspondent Scott Pelley all but declared that Titusville only had a few gasps of air left after the retirement of NASA’s space shuttle program and the devastating recession that wreaked havoc on housing markets across the nation.Housing prices and sales are up and starting to catch up with the rest of Brevard and unemployment is showing signs of improvement.
Also, a community whose life blood was the flow of federal dollars coming from NASA is now finding new investment and money from other sources.Every time you turn around, you see something new, said Marcia Gaedcke, president of the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce. Between June 2010 and June 2015.
In July 2015, the median selling price of Titusville homes was $99,400, which is 10.4 percent higher than the $90,000 median sales price a year prior, and 32.5 percent higher than the $75,000 median sales price five years before. There were 102 Titusville home sales last month, which is 20 percent higher than in July 2014 and more than double what was sold in July 2010.
