USAID to extends financial assistance for agriculture sector

MULTAN: Secretary Agriculture Punjab Muhammad Mehmood said on Wednesday that USAID would extend financial assistance of US$14.98 million for the promotion of agriculture and livestock sectors in Punjab.

The financial assistance would be extended under USAID Punjab Enabling Environment 5 Years Project, he said this while holding a joint workshop at a local hotel.

The workshop was attended by USAID official Jerry Basen, agriculture stakeholders and officials of Punjab government.

The basic aim of USAID Enabling Environment Project and Agriculture Department to improve the quality and productivity. The consultation and coordination between USAID and Punjab Agriculture department had improved agriculture growth rate from 0.27 percent to 3.46 percent, said Muhammad Mehmood.

Speaking on the occasion, Jerry Basen stated that Punjab province had enough potential to grow further. He said that agriculture policy, evolved by the Agriculture Commission would surely help improve crops.
