Vegetables export up by 4.72% to $127m in 8 months

ISLAMABAD: The country’s vegetable exports increased 4.72 per cent during first eight months of ongoing fiscal year.

During the period from July-February, 2015-16, about 430,056 metric tons of fresh vegetables of different kinds worth $126.786 million were exported as compared to 417,995 metric tons valuing of $121.066 million of same period of last year.

According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), on month-on-month basis, vegetable exports recorded negative growth of 26.89 percent in month of January, 2016 as about 77,841 metric tons of fresh vegetables worth $24.650 million were exported which were recorded at 111,591 metric tons valuing $33.715 million of same month last year.

However, during the period under review fruit exports from the country decreased by 5.78 percent as it came down from 434,512 metric tons valuing to $319.548 million to 518,798 metric ton worth $399.150 million, it added.

Meanwhile, exports of meat and meat products grew by 20.18 percent as about 54,558 metric tons of the commodity worth $188.341 million exported. In first eight months of last financial year, the meat and meat products exports from the country was recorded at 49,176 metric tons valuing $339.150 million, the data added.

During last 8 months of current financial year, country earned $47.304 million by exporting 12,941 metric tons of different kinds of spices which was up by 14.37 percent of exports of same period of last year.
