Vehicle detention case: SHC adjourns hearing till Oct 30

KARACHI: A Sindh High Court’s customs appellate bench has adjourned hearing of a vehicle detention case.

The bench adjourned the hearing of the petition filed by Abid Ashraf seeking release of Toyota Hilux Surf detained by Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations.

The bench perused the comments filed by respondent DIT filed by Khalid Rajpar advocate. The counsel raised the issue of the bona fide ownership of the vehicle and that in another Special Customs Reference Application (SCRA) 311 of 2013 having same chassis number etc.

The counsel raises the issue that how the Motor Vehicle Registration department registered three different vehicles with same chassis number i.e LN 130-0122417 but different engine number. The models however were shown to be of 1992, 1996 and 2004.

The counsel for respondent prayed to the court to direct the Nazir of the SHC to call the owners/claimants of the three vehicles for verification of the documents etc. The court was also prayed to summon the MVR officials who registered the three vehicles with same number and also to impose exemplary fine on petitioner in the instant petition.

The bench after perusing the para wise comments adjourned further proceedings till Oct 30.
