Vehicles Amnesty Scheme: Collector Saleem to issue show-cause notices against clearing agents

KARACHI: The authorities concerned of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (West) have decided to issue show-cause notices (SCNs) to the clearing agents who were found involved in clearance of vehicles under Vehicles Amnesty Scheme (VAS), Customs Today learnt here on Tuesday.

The well-informed sources revealed Customs Today that the MCC-Appraisement (West) is to serve the show-cause notices to around 20 clearing agents in first phase by the end of this week. It may be mentioned here that the MCC-Appraisement (West) while following the directives of FBR authorities concerned had started to scrutinize the data of clearing agents who used to clear the vehicles under amnesty scheme in the year2012.

The committee which was constituted on investigating the irregularities in clearance of vehicles under amnesty scheme in the year2012 in its report recommended scrutinizing the data of clearing agents and shipping lines in the clearance of vehicles under amnesty scheme. Subsequently, the Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (West) was sent a list of shipping agents, who were involved in clearing vehicles under amnesty scheme in the year 2012-13 to the authorities concerned of the Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Preventive.

Similarly, the authorities concerned of MCC-Appraisement (West) were working on to prepare the list of clearing agents who were involved in the clearance of the vehicles under Vehicles Amnesty Scheme (VAS).

Collector MCC-Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem had already said that Additional Collector (ADC)-I Dr Iftikhar Ahmed was working on preparing  the list of those clearing agents who were involved in clearance of vehicles under Vehicles Amnesty Scheme. The sources informed that the authorities concerned of MCC-Appraisement (West) has completed its working in this regard and ready to issue SCNs against the clearing agents in the current week.
