CARACAS: Foreign Minister Dr.Tedros met with Delcy Rodriguez, Foreign Minister of Venezuela, on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly in New York. On the occasion, Dr. Tedros noted Ethiopia’s desire to nurture the two nation’s bilateral relations through trade, investment and technology transfer.
He said, “We want to develop our relation in the spirit of advancing South-South cooperation.” He extended invitation to his Venezuelan counterpart to Visit Ethiopia with a view to strengthen ties.
He also noted that Ethiopian Airline’s flight to Sao Paulo and possible expansion to South America will have a role in connecting Ethiopia to Venezuela and the other countries of South America He also emphasized the importance of outlining areas of cooperation to nurture the bilateral relation which he said is currently at its infancy.
He pointed out that by building strong cooperation, Ethiopia could benefit a lot in adopting Venezuelan technology to its growing manufacturing, mining and agro-processing sectors. Delcy Rodriguez for her part underlined that Venezuela regards Ethiopia as an important country within the African continent and affirmed readiness to strengthen ties.
She expressed her hope that the opening of Venezuela’s embassy in Addis Ababa would be able to play an important role in fostering bilateral relation with Ethiopia and through African Union to the rest of African countries.
She also affirmed Venezuela’s readiness to work on technology transfer and in areas where the two countries can cooperate best. Delcy Rodriguez also invited Dr.Tedros to visit Venezuela.
