HANOI: To build a successful mobile website, choosing a suitable domain name is the first priority, said Luong Thi Thanh Huong, managing director of the Mat Bao Network joint-stock company at a seminar in Quang Ninh Province on Tuesday.

The e-commerce seminar delivered mobile platform advice and analysis to 100 delegates from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), state management agencies and experts in e-commerce sector.

Participants covered basic information on domain names and strategies to improve website quality and online business skills. Pragmatic and procedural concerns about domain name registration, and establishment of traditional and mobile websites, were addressed to help Vietnamese enterprises take advantage of Viet Nam’s impressive internet penetration.

Mobile devices have become an indispensable part of daily life for a vast per cent of the world’s population, whether it be a daily scheduler or news provider. According to Viet Nam E-commerce Association’s (Vecom) 2014 e-commerce report, there are 134 million mobile subscriptions in the country and more than 11.6 million smart phones were sold in the year.

With 39 per cent of the population on the Internet, 34 per cent of which access it through mobile devices, Viet Nam shows promise as an emerging mobile e-commerce market.

Nguyen Thanh Hung, deputy chairman and general secretary of Vecom, said mobile devices are invading the sector. Consumer demand for services and mobile applications that help them perform daily transactions in a more convenient manner around-the-clock is increasing.

Enterprises investing in mobile website solutions should meet these time and ease requirements to make them more competitive, Hung said. Having a strong mobile website will help Vietnamese enterprises increase long-term profits and develop an international presence, he advised the attendees.
