HANOI: Vietnam shrimp exporters expect a 17% drop in revenue in 2015, to $3.2 billion, due to disease and export difficulties in the first half of the year, reports Vietnam Plus, citing the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The sector brought home $1.2 billion during the January to June time period, down 29% from a year earlier, the newspaper said, citing the General Department of Customs.
Frozen white-leg declined 30% to $741m while tiger shrimp declined 31% to $412m. These make up the majority of the revenue.
The decline has led to a considerable reduction in seafood exports due to shrimp’s high volumes.
